UKCCSC News 8 February 2008Hi Folks,
I’m sure you’ve all noted the forthcoming UKCCSC progress meeting
into your diaries, but just in case, it’s on March 19 – 20th at
Heriot-Watt University here in Edinburgh.
If you’ve not booked yet, then there is accommodation available on
campus at Heriot-Watt University, which at £39 per night is practically
free by Edinburgh standards. In the city centre it costs more than that
to stay in a cardboard box under a railway arch.
Details (but no price, bizarrely) at:
http://www.edinburgh-conference.com/stay 2) Hannah sent another date for your over-worked diaries:
The Advanced Power Generation Technology Forum Workshop on Carbon
Abatement Technologies. BERR Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street,
London, 27 February.
Confirmed speakers for the Workshop include Malcolm Wicks - Minister for Energy and Lord Oxburgh - President CCS Association
www.apgtf-uk.com 3) Now for the big news, if you’ve not seen it already: “"Clean" Coal Power Plant Canceled--Hydrogen Economy, Too” Scientific American “The U.S. government—and major U.S. banks—seem to have lost their
appetite for coal. After spending five years and approximately $50
million on preliminary studies as well as selecting a proposed site in
Mattoon, Ill., the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has scuttled plans
to build the so-called FutureGen power plant." http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=clean-coal-power-plant-canceled-hydrogen-economy-too Also Reuters and the Washington post: http://uk.reuters.com/article/environmentNews/idUKN3041778520080130 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/30/AR2008013003621.html 4) “StatoilHydro (NYSE: STO) has partnered up with Dehradun, India's
state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corp. to develop carbon capture and
storage and other environmentally friendly projects in India.”
Cleantech http://media.cleantech.com/2420/statoilhydro-ongc-to-look-at-carbon-capture-and-storage 5) The Awful-Acronym award goes to: “The Alberta Saline Aquifer Project, or ASAP” Calgary Herald “Enbridge Inc. and a group of 19 energy-related companies rolled out a
new carbon storage project for Alberta Monday, building on momentum
sparked by concerns about greenhouse gases -- and the regulations
around them.” http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/calgarybusiness/story.html?id=9104393a-f789-446f-93ba-2e8b92dc9053 6) More from Canada:
“Governments of Canada and Alberta release Carbon Capture and Storage
Task Force report” Canada News Centre “The report, entitled Canada's Fossil Energy Future: The Way Forward on
Carbon Capture and Storage, provides advice on how governments and
industry can work together to facilitate and support the development of
carbon capture and storage opportunities in Canada.” http://news.gc.ca/web/view/en/index.jsp?articleid=375729&categoryid=1&category=News+Releases The report is at: www.nrcan.gc.ca and www.energy.gov.ab.ca. That’s all Folks |
